Taking the sound of the music and converting it into dazzling displays of color drew the young singer enough attention to land her gigs at several New York clubs and discotheques. However, Alison knew that she, a mutant, would have to keep the nature of her powers a secret. Marketing her light shows as a "technological secret," Alison was able to bypass critical speculation for some time. Yet while this little white lie fooled the club managers and others in her life, it did not escape the notice of Emma Frost, White Queen of the Hellfire Club, or Charles Xavier, founder and mentor of the X-Men.

After completing the Air Force Academy, Carol Danvers was recruited into the C.I.A., where she encountered special intelligence agent Logan and fought against the Hellfire Club with him. Later, Carol became the director of security for N.A.S.A. and met the Kree alien warrior Mar-Vell, known as Captain Marvel. The two were forever bonded when the explosion of a Kree Psyche-Magneton melded their genetic structures. The incident left Mar-Vell unchanged but morphed Carol's genes into a perfect hybrid of Kree and human and imparted in her all of Mar-vell's knowledge and training. Through this transformation, Ms. Marvel was born.
