Ghostbusters is a 1984 science fiction film directed and written by Ivan Reitman, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. The story follows eccentric parapsychologists and professors who, after losing their research grant from their University in New York, set up a company specializing in cases of supernatural apparitions.

Zuul is the Gatekeeper of Gozer, a mythical demigod of 6000 BC present in the Hittite, Mesopotamian, and Sumerian cultures. Zuul manifests on the physical plane at the top of the Shandor building, where he possessed the body of Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) after emerging from the gothic gargoyle statue. After her neighbor Louis Tully (Rick Moranis) is possessed by a similar demon named Vinz Clortho, the entities seek to find themselves in the bodies of their hosts. After consummating their mating ritual on a stone table at the top of the Shandor building, Gozer manifests.
