Despite its much-vaunted, powerful panzer divisions, the German military was far from being wholly mechanized during WWII. Indeed, many infantrymen had to rely on their own feet, on horses, or if they were lucky, on the humble bicycle. Dragon’s latest 1/6 scale model kit celebrates the German military bicycle so typically used throughout the war. This particular bike is fitted with a rear rack to which various items of personal gear can be fitted. There is also a frame on the front specifically designed to carry a pair of Panzerfaust antitank weapons. This weapon first appeared in 1942 and it comprised of a disposable launch tube that fired a high-explosive antitank warhead. The Panzerfaust 60 was the most common type, and production in the thousands commenced in September 1944. The 6.1kg weapon had a practical range of 60m and it could defeat up to 200mm of armor. The model kit includes two highly detailed Panzerfaust 60s, and they are complete with a flip-up sight and trigger mechanism. Decals are also included for the weapons’ markings.
This German bike is highly detailed, as demonstrated by the fineness of the spokes on the wheels. Even the bicycle pump mounted on the frame is included. The handlebars can be turned and the pedals rotated. This means the bike can be adjusted to provide that exact nuance a modeler is seeking for their display. There is also a front-mounted headlamp and a spring saddle. This 1/6 scale bicycle kit makes for the ultimate antitank weapon – pedal power reigns supreme!
